Porto
A busy and lively coastal city with great food, wine and a medieval history. There's lots of pretty churches, a lovely library and lots to do around here.
Pinhão
Pinhão is in the heart of Port wine region, with a riverside location in the Douro Valley - great for wine lovers! There's a nice walk along the river, a pretty tile covered station and lots of nearby quintas for wine tastying. The Vintage House Hotel is great for a cocktail overlooking the river.

It's possible to book a boat trip down the Douro Valley river between Porto and Pinhão and beyond. Take a look online for options.
Food
Try the local cuisine, particularly Bolinha de bacalhau (a traditinal Portuguese fish cake) and the famous Francesinha sandwich. David's favourite sandwich shop is based inland in Vila Real should you find yourself passing! Cardoso Restaurant.
Viewpoints
There are so many of these dotted along the roads as you drive through the valleys but a particular favourite of ours is Miradouro São Leonardo de Galafura. Our photo on the homepage was taken there. If you're lucky the mini wine bar at the top might be open for a taste of the local wine.
Zip Line
If you're borderline insane, feel free to try out the Douro adventure zip line - Pena Aventura.
